When you meditate, you can tap into a feeling of energy that can build in your head and create pressure, also known as a headache. This can be an intense feeling, and it is a part of the spiritual awakening process. When you first start meditating, you are unlocking energy in your body that has likely been dormant. The first place that your body awakens is in the upper chakras, which is the head or crown and the third eye.
What Causes the Headache?
When you start to awaken internally through meditation, energy will first gather around your head. This can cause a headache that can be painful. The pressure that you are feeling often symbolizes some kind of resistance internally, which can happen when you are holding on to control rather than releasing the pressure.
Pressure is almost always the result of resistance to the light, and this can happen when you are trying to let go of deep feelings of anxiety or stress. As you open up the different parts of your body, you can let the energy continue flowing all the way through it and release it when you give in and let go of what you are trying to control.
How to Release the Headache
You can work to release this energy that is causing the headache. First, you should sit in a comfortable position for around 10 minutes. You need to start breathing very intentionally and mindfully. Take slow breaths deep inside and feel your breath as it enters and leaves your body. Be slow and methodical in your breathing.
Next, you can think of the pressure around your head. You don’t want to focus on it, but you should relax your head as you think of it. Go through each part of your head, including your jaw, your forehead, and the back of your head, and slowly feel your head relax. Next, imagine that the pressure is water. Your head should be a sponge, and you can feel the sponge absorbing the water. Feel it move toward your neck, down your neck, and let it spread throughout your entire body. You will feel it travel the entire way through your body, finally ending up at your feet. You can release it from your feet to the earth below.
Other Ways to Relieve the Headaches
As you start meditating, you are adjusting the energy in your body. This can take some adjusting, and you may experience headaches. You can practice the meditation above to eliminate the headaches, but there are a few other methods you can try as well. Taking a shower when you feel the headache can help because the connection of your body to the water is grounding. Another idea is to try some yoga poses, which can also be grounding and help you move the pressure through your body. You can walk on the earth in your bare feet, which will help you to feel connected to the earth. Finally, you can go for a hike or engage in other physical exercise, which is good for your body and mind.
